 YOU can be a doula!

If you have the time, commitment and stamina

needed to stay continuously at a woman’s side during childbirth, we'll provide the training and opportunity.

As a doula you need a calming presence, but prior healthcare training or birth experience is not required.

About our Doulas

image5

Our experienced doulas are there for YOU,

free of charge, and will support all your

birth preferences.

A doula “mothers the mother,” and in

doing so, provides a level of personal

care proven to enhance the experience

of childbirth for the whole family.

Doula care has been proven to decrease:

• length of labor • medical interventions •use of pain medication • cesarean rates

What our families and staff say about our program:

I was “losing it” until Kim and Robin arrived and helped me get back into the calm I needed. They were a blessing and I am so thankful UCSD has such a wonderful program available. - Maria

Thank you so much for your time and presence during our labor and surprise C-Section....(you) made the whole experience less stressful and less terrifying. - Ariana

…she knows the tricks, she knows the spots and simply she is good at this. We are truly indebted to her and the UCSD Med. Center for running this program. - Susan

I felt I had a team player help me understand my options and the pros and cons. Natasha Thank you very much for your help and warm presence. You struck a balance between an eagerness to serve and a respect for a couple’s intimacy. My fear that you’d try to take over was unfounded.  - Derek, a new father

As a social worker I have the perspective to see what a unique role a doula can play in the life of a woman. She can provide support at a very specific time in her life without any strings attached.  Virgi  (UCSD Social Worker)
