Requesting a Hearts & Hands Doula is Simple
There's nothing you need to do in advance
Our doulas are on call 24/7, and can be requested when you arrive at the hospital, or any time later in labor.
You don't need to sign up in advance, and the service is free of charge.
Simply ask your nurse to check on availability, and she will make the call to the scheduled doula.

Your doula will plan to arrive at the hospital within the hour and will stay with you continuously no matter how long it takes for your baby to arrive.
Doulas can help you and your partner through every stage of labor, and will help advocate for your plans and preferences. We are trained to support you anyway your birth will happen:
- Lots of family support, or none at all
- With midwives, or doctors
- In the Birth Center, or in Labor & Delivery
- Low-risk pregnancies, or those with complications
- Using pain medications, or going without

This program is supported by UC San Diego Health and others who believe that every birthing person should have a doula available at their baby's birth. Donations, large and small, keep us going so that we can continue to provide free doula care to new families.
You can also help by telling a friend - we're looking for more good doulas, and will provide all the training needed to get started.
